1926 Mexican Medal of Merit – Third Class (Condecoración al Mérito Militar 3a Clase)

This large brass medal (48.6mm wide × 51.1mm tall, 94.5mm overall with ribbon) was awarded for extraordinary service by Mexican Armed Forces members or foreigners benefiting Mexico. Instituted in 1926, it reflects post-revolutionary military reforms.

Obverse:

Crossed rifles & bugle: Symbolizing infantry and cavalry roles

Enamel Mexican flag: Vibrant green, white, and red stripes (intact)

"1926" inscription

Ribbon: Original red with white borders (dirty but intact; pin missing)

 

Historical Context:

Post-Revolution Era: Created after the 1910–1920 revolution to replace earlier awards like the Military Merit Star (1897–1926).

Third Class Distinction: Typically awarded to mid-ranking officers or foreigners for significant non-combat contributions.
